The Teacher Foundation proudly invites you to the inaugural launch of our Indian Social and Emotional Learning Framework (ISELF) session in Bangalore on 18 January, 2019.  Stemming from our 6 year nation-wide research and development of an age-banded framework of standards for social & emotional learning in Indian schools, ISELF serves as a ready reckoner to help educators develop social-emotional competencies in children and transform existing school cultures in India.

Many organisations and education professionals in India are beginning to examine the seemingly ephemeral affective domain of social and emotional learning with a focus on nurturing students as self-aware, responsible, confident, happy individuals. As Zoe Weil (2016) says: the world becomes what we teach. This could be extended to embrace the idea that the world will not become what we don’t teach! And what do we not teach actively and deliberately in Indian schools? A universal respect for human dignity; questioning, dissent and differing points of view; experiencing deep authentic learning; rigorous modelling of ethical practice; acceptance of diversity in people’s behaviour, lifestyles and interests. These and many other such vital aspects are needed to help transform Indian society, with young people who are self-aware, humane, responsible in both, a civic and moral sense, and consciously striving for a more equitable world.

However, all this is largely sidelined by education practitioners in India owing to the absence of a well-defined and clearly articulated age appropriate standards for SEL. This gap is being addressed by ISELF (Indian Social and Emotional Learning Framework)!

Our inaugural launch in Bangalore, will have Dr. Shekhar Seshadri, Professor and HOD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, NIMHANS and Dr. Neena David, Clinical Psychologist and Counsellor, speak at the conference on SEL for Mental Well-being of School Students.

Both have been deeply involved as Advisory Council members in TTF’s research on ISELF and it is our honour to have them as Chief Guests for the occasion.

TTF will also help you get acquainted with ISELF through navigating you through it in an experiential manner. ISELF is also being launched in other cities across India. Each launch will involve a discussion on a different theme related to social & emotional learning.

We look forward to your confirmation.
