Schools exist to foster learning. The success of a school depends primarily on what happens inside the classroom when teachers are with children. Are all the children engaged and interested in the lesson? Is the teacher making the lesson relevant? Every school would be a successful school if effective teaching is enabled to help students learn with meaning. How can this be made possible consistently?

TTF’s Whole School Turnaround (WST) approach is based on the premise that sustained instructional change cannot occur in schools unless all the stakeholders are involved. WST is one of the most effective ways in which the school management can improve their school’s standards, culture and reputation amongst parents and community for long-term results, through focusing on the crux of schooling – quality of student learning.

Support for Teachers
The Teacher Foundation will subsequently work with different stakeholders in the school in the following ways:

Support for Teachers

Improving the quality of teaching across the whole school by training teachers lies at the heart of WST. TTF will train teachers on the following four broad areas during WST:

  • Improving teachers’ fluency in English for classroom interactions
  • Equipping them with contemporary pedagogy and teaching strategies that focus on enhancing student learning through effective lesson planning using strategies like group work, active learning methods and formative assessment.
  • Subject specific training in Math and English fundamentals to help build foundational concepts in students.
  • Providing intensive in-school support through Classroom observations and one-on one feedback to help teachers reflect on their practices

Support for School Leaders

During WST, The Teacher Foundation trains school heads too through a leadership and management programme, designed to leverage school leaders’ participation in the following areas:

  • Vision building for their school and communicate the same to the parents and the community
  • Improved teaching, learning and assessment processes to enhance students outcomes
  • Enhanced and improved communication between stakeholders, to build better relationships in the school
  • Regular monitoring of all systems and processes in the school for maximising effectiveness and efficiency

The Teacher Foundation will help the school strengthen its partnership with parents through:

  • Orientation events for parents to garner their support for the change initiatives of the school.
  • Showcasing its strengths and opportunities better.
  • Subject specific training in Math and English fundamentals to help build foundational concepts in students.
  • Giving inputs to design and conduct effective parent-teacher meetings.
