Every School an Inclusive School : making the Mandate a Movement!

Inclusion in schools is a legal mandate. However, the reality is that we are far removed from achieving this in our classrooms. An inclusive classroom is one in which all students, regardless of ability, are welcomed, and differing learning needs are addressed in a meaningful and responsive learning environment.

This requires a paradigm shift in teachers’ beliefs and attitudes towards students with disabilities. Many teachers feel under-equipped to meet the demands of an increasingly diverse classroom, especially with respect to children with disabilities. Many other teachers and schools don’t realise that children with disabilities need to be actively included in mainstream schools.

It is with this requirement in mind, that The Teacher Foundation has conceptualised and designed, EnAble – a series of training modules to make every school an inclusive school in collaboration with CBM, India. CBM India has endeavoured for 50 years to create a more inclusive society. This training aims to foster teacher preparedness towards establishing more effective and inclusive schooling for all children.
